Home Architecture : Creating the Inspired House: Discovering Your Place Called Home

Home Architecture : Creating the Inspired House: Discovering Your Place Called Home

Creating the Inspired House: Discovering Your Place Called Home

Vermont architect Connell has long been interested in the relationships among homeowners, architects and builders; he started the Yestermorrow Design/Build School in 1980 precisely to bring these three groups together. So it’s no surprise that his second book (after Homing Instinct) aims to "devote…attention to the human drama that goes along with the making of a house." However, there are no accounts of irritable fights or disappointing compromises in this photo-rich volume. Instead, Connell focuses on the way that friendly collaboration and open-ended discussions can lead to the creation of beautiful, individualistic homes. "Personality, lifestyle and human values," he writes, "are essential fuel for good design," and these traits are best discovered when the chemistry between architect, owner and builder are just right. Certainly, the 21 "inspired" remodels and new constructions that he details are pretty impressive. One team transforms the dim interior of a 1960s tract house into a streamlined symphony of glass, light and color.

Another builds, then expands, a small country home that feels as cozy as a secret treehouse. Connell includes a few brief sections on such topics as "outdoor rooms" and "television and media centers." But, though his rich photos and careful explanations of design decisions make this a great place to troll for new design solutions, overall the book feels a little unfocused. The chemistry that Connell celebrates is an uncommon and intangible experience, and he gives no real practical tips on how readers can create it themselves. 300 color photos.

The Green House: New Directions in Sustainable Architecture

The Green House: New Directions in Sustainable Architecture

From the arid deserts of Tucson, Arizona to the icy forests of Poori, Finland to the tropical beaches of New South Wales, Australia to the urban jungle of downtown Manhattan, critics Alanna Stang and Christopher Hawthorne have traveled to the farthest reaches of the globe to find all that is new in the design of sustainable, or "green," homes. The result: more than thirty-five residences in fifteen countries -- and nearly every conceivable natural environment -- designed by a combination of star architects and heretofore unknown practitioners. Six different climactic zones are presented in The Green House -- waterfront, forest and mountain, tropical, desert, suburban, and urban; there is also a section on mobile dwellings. Each chapter features a series of homes that show the diversity and possibility of sustainable design. Projects are presented with large color images, plans, drawings, and an accompanying text that describes their green features and explains how they work with and in the environment. Architects included: Santiago Calatrava, Shigeru Ban, Miller/Hull, Rick Joy, Lake Flato, Kengo Kuma, Glenn Murcutt, Pugh & Scarpa, Werner Sobek, and many others. The Green House is not only a beautiful object in its own right, but is sure to be an indispensable reference for anyone building or interested in sustainable design -- and if you ask us, that should be everyone.

The Architecture of the Building of National Assembly of Serbia

The Architecture of the Building of National Assembly of Serbia

This is the building of National Assembly of Serbia. This is an amazing architecture of a building.

The unicameral parliament of Serbia is known as the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia (Serbian: Народна скупштина Републике Србије / Narodna skupština Republike Srbije)

The first Act of the National Assembly of Serbia was passed on October 28, 1858. Based on this Act, the St. Andrew's Day Assembly was convened, and held from November 30, 1858 to January 31, 1859 in Belgrade. Thus the institution of National Assembly was made legal, and foundations were laid for a system of popular representation in Serbia.

Common-law assemblies were held from the beginning of the 19th century until 1858. They were convened either by the Prince or by the Council whenever they saw fit. They were also held during the First and Second Serbian Uprisings, from 1804 to 1815 ("Popular assemblies in times of uprisings"). The participants in these assemblies, except for a few rare cases, were invited by the Prince or by the Council, rather than elected by the people. Common-law assemblies were almost always held under the open sky, and thousands of people would attend. At one of them, the Sretenje Assembly, held on the day of the Serbian Orthodox Church religious holiday, the first Serbian constitution - Sretenje Constitution - was ratified. In early September of 1842, the "Defenders of the Constitution" headed by Toma Vucic-Perisic, aided by the Assembly, deposed Prince Mihailo and put Aleksandar Karadordevic in his place. Sixteen years later, at the St. Andrew's Day Assembly, they performed a dynastic coup and returned the Obrenovic dynasty to the throne.

Prior to becoming the Parliament of Serbia, it served as the seat of parliament for Yugoslavia (Kingdom, DFY, FPRY, SFRY and FRY) and Serbia and Montenegro.

Construction on the building started in 1907, with the cornerstone being laid by King Petar I. The building was based on a design made by Konstantin Jovanović in 1891; a variant of that design made by Jovan Ilkić, which won a competition in 1901. World War I delayed construction, and the original plans to the building were lost. Reconstruction of the plans were made by Jovan's son Pavle. The interior was designed by Nikolaj Krasnov. It was designed in the manner of academic traditionalism.

A sculpture by Toma Rosandić, Igrali se konji vrani (Play of Black Horses), was placed in front of the building in 1939.

Amazing Building:Villa Pinia by ARK-house Architects in Jurmala, Latvia

Villa Pinia in Jurmala, Latvia was designed by architects ARK-house with Latvian villa style for a four-person family. It is situated on a pine-forested plot near the sea with great natural beauty. The design task was based on a workshop-format competition, in which nine architects or offices from different parts of Europe were invited to participate. ARK-House’s sketch design was chosen as the basis for the final implementation. When designing abroad the lack of knowledge of the foreign culture must partly be replaced by empathising with and throwing oneself into the genius loci. Jurmala in Latvia has a fabled past as the laid-back summer resort of the upper classes during the Soviet era. The beach atmosphere of the spa town conjured up images of the Functionalism of the Baltic States during the 1920s and 1930s, and the optimism associated with it. The main idea behind the design of Villa Pinia is a dialogue between a levitating white rectangle and the dark trunks of the pine trees. On the south side the straight line of the building becomes a free broken line. The timber weatherboarding of the latter facade has been given a reddish brown tone. The colours and materials strive for an imagery derived from boats and ships, a gesture to the preferences of the client and his background as a sea captain. The scale on the yard side is intimate and the interiors continue out as sheltered terraces. All three floors in the interior are also linked by long vistas. A tree has been placed in the internal garden visually linking together all the floors.

Saxo Bank is a young dynamic internet bank with focus on online-trade with currencies, shares and futures on the bank’s self-developed platform, Saxo Trader. Saxo Bank was founded in 1992 in Denmark and counts around 850 staff members of 35 nationalities who serve customers from 115 different countries.

Saxo Bank’s new headquarter in Copenhagen is designed by 3XN. Although the customers primarily encounter the bank in cyberspace, the physical premises of the head office is of great importance to the management of the bank who participate actively and are highly dedicated to the development of the building. The building is of great iconographic significance, and there is a strong conviction that architecture and design affect each staff member’s performance and awareness of the company.

The interior of the building is open and transparent with a large sense of community. The open plans centre round a softly shaped atrium with a glass roof. In the atrium, the main stair case winds up to the top. However, the main room and largest attraction of the building is the so-called Trading Floor where share prices are monitored intensely and resemble scenes from American movies about stock exchanges. Furthermore, the building encompasses a large number of rooms for technical support, kitchenettes and recreational areas.

Amazing Architectural Design of Golden Dome Mosque : Masjid Kubah Emas

Amazing Architectural Design of Golden Dome Mosque : Masjid Kubah Emas
more details here; originally uploaded by Tempo Dulu

This is the the most extraordinary mosque in Indonesia now (2008). This mosque is called "Masjid Kubah Emas ("gold domed mosque')" by Indonesian people. The real name of this mosque is "Masjid Dian Al-Mahri".

it’s built on a plot of 80 hectares surrounded by fruit trees and a few other large and luxurious buildings.

And make no mistake about it: no expense was spared in constructing the mosque: it’s absolutely incredible. Just imagine: all the domes, pillars, chandeliers and other ornaments are covered by pure 24 carat gold!! In addition, some of the building materials are imported as well. The granite for example came from Italy, Spain, Norway, and Brazil.

Incredibly, this mosque was built by a successful businesswoman from Serang named Dian Juriah Maimun Al-Rasyid.

This mosque is located in Depok, the south of cinere.
